The Glass

Still excited about Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Now on the topic of glasses, I got some.

I’ve had glasses, 8th and 9th grade, but then I got contacts. I wear them daily because my old glasses didn’t have the right prescription any longer.

I wanted glasses for the afternoons and weekends, because I take my contacts out the second I get home. For the reasons (1) they irritate my eyes the longer I wear them, (2) I wear my pair of daily-wear contacts for up to a full week. I know, it’s not a good thing, but they’re only worn for six hours every day. And (3) because I don’t like having to put them in on the weekends because I am mostly in the house.

I can see clearly now my glasses are on.

I can see all the obstacles far away-ay.

I can see clearly now my glasses are on.

It’s gonna be a clear, clear clear, clear cle-e-ar da-a-ay!

Turban.

Sometimes I wear a headscarf. But I call it my turban. I wear them a lot when I come home from school and want my hair out of my face.

I had read this post to learn how to tie the scarf first. But then this showed up on my feeds from a blog I just started following, AB Chao. The video picks up the pace after a minute and a half and from there, it is hilarious. Even this time, when I watched it a second time after finding the post, I laughed, and not just in my head.019

I feel like a 50’s mom when I wear this!

Nailed it.

Striped nail polish! I did my nails and then Mary wanted to do it. So I helped her and took pictures along the way.

Nails (13)

WARNING: Give yourself lots of time to get this done, I did one layer and then did the others later in the day so I wasn’t stuck with the nail polish stink for so long.

Nails (2)

Step 0: Clean nails… obviously, so it’s not going to count as a step.

Nails (3)

Step 1: Bottom layer painted.

Nails (4)

Step 2: Give the first layer plenty extra time to dry. Not wet, or tacky at all. Tape a line up to a third of your nails.

Nails (5)

Step 3: Paint above the tape with the second color.

Nails (6)

Step 4: Wait for a minute or so and peel off the tape slowly and downwards.

Nails (8)

Step 5: Clear coat

Nails (9)

Step 6: Again let dry. Give them lots of time. Then tape again and paint with the third.

Step 7: Pull the tape off again after a minute or so.

Step 8: Clear coat.

And you’re done! There is so many different combinations of colors. And they’ll all look good!

Nails (14)

I think mine looks like sherbet but I’ve heard that they’re Easter colors too. I can’t wait for Halloween, I’m going to try candy corn colors; orange, yellow, white!

For even crazier nail art visit The Dainty Squid and search nails on her site. She comes up with wacky designs regularly. And they’re so fun and colorful!

The Smock

Class: Ceramics

Assignment- Bring the following to class by the 13th

      • Spiral Notebook
      • Pencil
      • Plastic Bag
      • Rag
      • A Smock

Sunday I went to goodwill and bought a huge dress that I had seen earlier in the week. It was yellow with flowers all over it, it had arm holes down to my waist, and it had slits to my knees as it pooled around my feet. So I cut it off at the knees, and cut down the sides. They were hemmed, I attached two ties and it was ready. Mary took my photo and ran into the pool, savoring one of the last hot days of summer.

Perfect! Well, perfect enough to shield me from clay splatters. I got the shoes and the sweater on a goodwill visit too, and there’s the skirt again.

Wrist

My wrists change every year. After softball ends, I start collecting and making bracelets. Here are what my wrists were adorned with this summer:

bracelets (1)

Left hand: all except for one, I made. My sister made the pink/purple/red one for me. I’ve had the one with writing on it and the yellow and pink braid for a long time. Especially the yellow/pink bracelet, I’ve had since last summer because it can slide on and off.

bracelets (2)

Right hand: all by me, these ones are old, the white braid is pilling and I started knotting the chevron a really long time ago. I also wear a navy analog watch on my wrist during school, but I don’t like getting it wet, though it is waterproof, because it slides on my wrist and doesn’t dry.
