Textbooks

My school is under construction, that means no lockers for us until the first day. But we still got our textbooks at orientation and had to carry them home. I got 5 books and I still haven’t gotten my math or english books. I saw a few people with up to 7. But I have waited all summer to get my textbooks, not to read them, ha! But to cover them in butcher paper. Sound appealing? Bear with me the camera was on high exposure because it was dusk, so the pictures can be fuzzy.r and m blog pics t bday mom hair (1)

Butcher paper, also known as postal paper, is like thick brown wrapping paper. It comes in a really thick roll and is for surely sale at any office stores in the postal section.

To start, cut out a long rectangle, 4 inches taller than your textbook, my paper is too short but it’ll still work,  and 3 and a half times the width, don’t worry about straight edges.

Because the next step is to fold them down. Fold down the top edge about two inches, then measure where to fold the bottom up by lining it up with the bottom of the book.

Despite the weary guise, this step is easy. Simply set the book on it’s binding and slide the papers edges so the line up.

With the book returned to it’s [back? covers? horizontal position?] and all it’s pages flipped to one side, fold over the paper.

Flip the pages over and repeat.

Then close the book. But you’re not done.

These next two steps are the trickiest part. One side at a time, slide the cover into the folded butcher paper.

On the second side you will have to bend the cover back as far as it will go.

But then you’re done! If the sides poke out, poke them back in. My books have diagrams and timelines in the covers, so I’m going to photocopy and paste the copy onto the butcher paper.

My next step is to write what each book is on the spine so I can grab them easily. 5 minutes passing time.

The Good Stuff Goes on Top.

Finished another collage Tuesday. I cut negative media messages out of magazines, pasted it down. Covered it with tissue paper –the photo doesn’t show an accurate representation of what it looks like- and pasted the good stuff on top.

Orientation for Junior year today! Here’s my schedule:

2nd- Cadet Choir

3rd- AP US World History

It’s the first year with an AB Schedule, I’ll have only half the classes every day. 1, 3, 5, & 7 or 2, 4, 6, & 8. AND Wednesday will be early dismissal every week.

But enough on that, I still have almost a month left!

Tucked away in my bag

001 (3)

This is what I had as my pencil pouch for most of the last semester of my sophomore year. I loved it. Every class I would take it out, set it on my desk, zip it open and get my pen or pencil out.

My Pencil/Pen Schedule:

1st: Phycology Pen

2nd: Biology- Pen

3rd: Pre-Calc- Pencil

4th: History- Pen

5th: English- Pen

6th: Art- Pencil

7th: Spanish- Pen

Of course, this was subject to change if I couldn’t find a sharp pencil or working pen.

But I used it every day. EVERYDAY. And pretty soon it started looking like this at the bottom:005

However, if I covered it up with my pens and pencils it looked nice and neat..ish, but I decided one day to make a new pouch, I didn’t consider the diminishing amount of school days. I Googled a tutorial and found one at Annie Get Your Glue Gun. Using the tutorial, and an old Hawaiian shirt of my dads, and some leftover fabric, I created a new pouch, with a month and a half of school left.006009

I sat it on my desk and pulled out my pen or pencil every day. It sat through finals, fully stocked with working pens and freshly sharpened pencils.

Schools out now, this little guy is tucked away in my bag, along with my notebook. Just perfect for jotting notes on the run.
